Dashboard Design – Light & Dark Mode with Variables.

Overview

I’ve been exploring efficient UI/UX design techniques, and as a practice challenge, I designed a responsive dashboard with a smooth light and dark mode toggle using variables.
Instead of creating multiple screens for each mode, I leveraged design variables, making the prototype more scalable and efficient.

Practice Goals

  1.  Reduces redundancy in screens.

  2. Enhances consistency across designs.

  3. Improves prototyping speed

Mastering variables and components in UI design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about building smarter, more adaptable interfaces.

Use of Components & Variables

1. Implemented Variables for Light & Dark Mode
Rather than creating separate screens for light and dark modes, I used color variables. With just one design file, users can toggle between themes seamlessly. This not only reduces the number of screens but also makes maintaining design consistency effortless.

2. Created Components for Reusability
I converted frequently used UI elements (buttons, icons, cards, list items) into components. This approach:

  • Made updates easier—changing a single component updated all instances across the design.
  • Kept the prototype lean by avoiding redundant screens.
